Somewhere along an alternative timeline, probably in the mid-1990s, just as the Cold War was fizzling to a quiet end, some independent covert operations groups realized their typical revenue sources were about to dry up. The time, effort, money, and attention given to the equipment and training for their teams was about to be wasted.
But these groups were not ready to give up. Instead, they turned their skills and resources towards a new venture: the Spy Car International Damage Derby League, more commonly called “SCIDD League.”
Each group would pit their cars and crews against each other in scheduled “Damage Derbies” as a form of high-octane entertainment. It has quickly become one of the most-watched recurring worldwide television events.

Each Base Kit comes with a unique, randomly-selected deck of 54 Crew Cards (from a full set of 540), and enough materials to start your own 4-team league. Additional teams & on-going seasons only need to add an 18-card SCIDD League Crew Pack or two, as needed, to keep things fresh.
The kit has everything needed to run a 4-team on-going league.
League play (as described in Booklet #2) allows for the building of teams via drafting, trading, and signing free agent Crew members. Teams are able to pay for upgrades to the team's Cars and improvements to the Crew members capabilities as the seasons goes on.
Each Derby the team participates in will result in damage to Cars and injuries to Crew members, which will need to be handled by the team before the next Derby. Derbies also provide the main source of income for the teams to use to pay for Crew and upgrades.
The Damage Derby, by itself, is a fully-engaging, very exciting game, that allows players to make clever moves and experience nice "Aha!" moments. Adding the meta-gaming, between-Derby, league-play elements gives more depth to each Derby.
The upgrades to Cars will improve upon the base skill rating of the driver, and the Crew member improvements allow them to have additional dice effects in the Derby. And the damage taken by Cars and Crew during the Derby may remove the paid-for Upgrades and impact Crew availability for future Derbies.
All markings on the mats and cards during the games are done with dry erase marker, so they can be completely cleaned at the end of each game.
For league play, important league and team information that needs to be saved between games is tracked on separate tracking sheets and not on the game components.
It will be possible, even after a long-running league, to return things to their original setup as when the game was first purchased.
