Spearmint valley is a 1-3 player cooperative game about farming, friendship, and community. To win the game, players must complete a set of random goals in addition to forming friendships with revealed friend cards.
Completing the goals and making friendships will require collecting resources from farming, fishing, mining, and fighting slimes. Resources can also be spent to craft items or build buildings for passive benefits.
The game takes place over 3 years with each turn representing a season. New friend cards will be revealed at the start of each year, and they will restrict actions that players can perform during different seasons of the year.
Managing time and planning actions to perform each turn is critical to winning Spearmint Valley.
Players will have a set of cards to perform actions. If their meeple is at the correct spot on the map, they can play a card and perform that action. Each action will cost an amount of time to perform. There is not enough time each turn to play all actions.
Each player will track how much available time they have to perform actions. Cards can be discarded to gain time instead of performing actions. After a player ends their action turn for a season, they have the option to buy more powerful cards from an available market row of cards.
Players will roll dice to see how successful they were at performing an action. Most of the time the action will perform, even with a bad roll, but will take more time to do so. There are ways to discard cards to mitigate bad dice rolls as well. This element brings a small amount of push-your-luck when planning out your actions each turn.
Each game will have a different combination of starting goals and friend cards. While goal cards will drive the direction of the player's gameplay, Friend cards will keep each game unique because of the resources that friends will want and which actions they will prevent players from taking during different seasons.
Stardew Valley the video game was a huge inspiration for this game. This game came to me as an idea to merge Stardew Valley's theme with the time management gameplay of Final Girl. So I think this game can be enjoyed by fans of both.
