Description

A simple dice game about bowling.

Set up the pins and roll the dice! Use the values on the dice to knock down pins (remove them from the lane) and score points for knocked down pins like you would in regular bowling.

An understanding of bowling scoring (strikes and spares in frames) is required.

You will need:

  • Dry erase markers to use the included scorecards (or create your own scorecards).
  • Familiarity with scoring in real bowling.

Setup

Give each player a scorecard and a dry erase marker, then choose a player to start.

Gameplay

On your turn:

  1. Set up the pins on the Lane card.
  2. Set the green die aside out of play.
  3. Roll the black dice.
  4. If you rolled any 6's, roll the green die and include it in your scoring.
  5. Now, remove pins from the Lane card that match the numbers on the dice you rolled.
  6. Finally, combine the dice in any ways you want to remove more pins.

For example, if you rolled 1, 5, and 6, that would allow you to roll the green die, and let's say it came up as 3. Then you can remove pins 1, 3, 5, and 6, as well as 4 (1 + 3), 7 (1 + 6), 8 (3 + 5), 9 (1 + 3 + 5) and 10 (6 + 3 + 1), for a total of 9 pins!

If you managed to knock down all the pins with your first roll, you got a strike! Otherwise, write down the total and roll the dice again (starting at step 2) to try to knock down the remaining pins for a spare.

After your second roll (or your first if you got a strike), score the frame as in real bowling and let the next player take their turn.

The player with the most points after ten frames wins!

Now including Gutterball-13!

Knock down pins to score points and get the high score to win in this alternate version of Tenpin!

You will need

As with the base rules, you will need dry erase markers and a familiarity with scoring in bowling.

Setup

Give each player a scorecard and a dry erase marker, then choose a player to start. NOTE: In this version, the colors of the dice do not matter.

Gameplay

On your turn:

  1. Set up the pins on the Lane card.
  2. Roll 2 of the dice.
  3. Then you may either roll another die or proceed to scoring.
  4. Then you may either roll the fourth die or proceed to scoring.
  5. Finally, you must proceed to scoring.

Scoring

First, add up the values of all the dice you rolled. If the total is more than 13, gutterball! Score nothing for this ball. Otherwise, knock down pins by adding dice as you do in the base rules of Tenpin.

For example, if you rolled 1, 3, 4, and 5 (total=13, so no gutterball), you can remove pins 1, 3, 4, and 5, as well as 6 (1 + 5), 7 (3 + 4), 8 (3 + 5), 9 (1 + 3 + 5) and 10 (5 + 4 + 1), for a total of 9 pins!
