The Tablet of Fate is a lightweight 2 player Indiana Jones-style pulp fiction race in which players compete to keep the Tablet of Fate.
You and your passenger sidekick have just found the Tablet of Fate, but it looks like you have company. Can you snatch it and get to the helicopter first, in this strategic race of offense vs. defense, to keep the Tablet for your own and change your destiny forever?
Whoever has The Tablet of Fate by the time they reach the helicopter wins.
5 minutes to learn. 1 minute to set up. Or even learn while you play!
Place 1 Jalopy on each side of the road. Decide which road/Jalopy is yours.
Place all gems, coal, wrench and compass between players in a pile. Pick up 4 coins per player. Person who drives the worst car in real life goes first.
Toss 4 coins and choose your fate.
Shake and toss 4 coins. 1 side is an anvil, the other side is a face.
Anvil side up means move forward 1 square. Face side up means you can either take a purple gem, a coal, or use either if you have any already.
Purple Gem - Retoss coins you haven’t used, then choose actions on those.
Coal - Toss 4 coins, then number of anvils = 1 square back for opponent.
If you roll 4 anvils - take wrench token - Opponent can’t use anvil side on next turn if rolled. Must roll 3 or 4 anvil to remove wrench.
If you roll 4 faces - take compass token - move forward 1 square per turn. Must roll 3 or 4 faces to steal compass.
In such a small packed game, where really is the fun? The magic is in the heart of what decisions you make. Do you choose to collect resources and hoard them? Or get a resource and immediately use it? Or maybe collect just Coals to sabotage your opponent? Or just collect Gems to boost yourself ahead! With so much strategy after the coins are tossed, how will you win?
This is a game of testing your fate, as you choose to either fight through coals or gems. Gems allow you the option to retoss your coins, making your fate better or worse than your first toss. While coal will push your opponent back no matter what. The real question is: Who will alter their fate more?
