Description

Treasure Takedown is a hugely immersive game that will allow your pupils with SEN to learn and make progress whilst having fun.

The players play the role of different pirates, roaming around an island, looking for treasure and at times, battling each other to steal some more! The adultiest adult of the group must play as the Captain! The Captain doesn't join in with the roaming around the board, but rather provides guidance and keeps the board full of booty!

Each player has a Stats board to keep track of their progress, along with a bag for their loot. Players can collect coins, Stat pieces to upgrade their Health, Attack and Defense, and they can also collect Power Blessings, which grant them abilities, such as increased movement, long range attacking, etc.

Hidden in this pirate game, however, the players will develop their emotional awareness and knowledge, by having to answer question cards in order to earn their upgrades.

The benefits to SEN are as follows:

  • Emotional vocabulary and awareness

Players will, as part of the game, answer questions about happiness, anger, worry and pride. However, these questions are not as simple as some of the ones used in other games, and can stir up deeper discussions, thus providing opportunities for further development in all things emotional.

  • Focus/ attention

Players are in charge of moving their piece around the board strategically, in order to pick up as much as they can, while also being wary of other players' movements, while also thinking about what they need to upgrade, etc. It is a lot. This means that for those who are on their way to mastering their focus and attention, this game is a great extender that will push them further.

  • Empathy/ social skills

If discussions are allowed to play out fully, then this provides the players with enough interactions among the group and enough discussion to learn about other's views and perspectives.

As will all SENGO games, this game is designed to be flexible in it's rules somewhat, thus allowing the teacher/ guardian/ adultier adult to have more control of how to play the game, giving a more focussed experience for those with SEN.
