Gold coins and gemstones sparkle in the light of your torches. There's a greedy shimmer in your eyes. You made it. You've found the motherload! Perhaps there's enough treasure here for the both of you...
But wait...what's that sound? "Sssssssssss....."
Snakes?! Why did it have to be snakes?!?
You'll have to divide the treasure, tread carefully, and plan your moves.
Who will grab the most treasure—and make it out alive?
Treasures of Fold is a three-dimensional "I-Cut-You-Choose" game for 2 players who assume the roles of treasure hunters. Your goal is to grab the most treasure before snakes bite you to death. Each round, you'll:
Divide the treasure by folding the map (the card) 2 times.
Each player claims 1 visible side of the map.
Collect 1 type of treasure from what's visible on your side.
Try to make it out alive (collect each type of treasure) before you lose all your health (♥). The surviving player with the most treasure (points) wins.
1.) Pre-fold the card along each of the white lines. (Use a straight edge if needed to make crisp creases.)
[show this here]
2.) Use some scrap paper to doodle a simple score sheet. It should show 3 health (♥), a place for a sword, a place to count coins, and a place to count each type of gem, like this:
3.) Choose a player to go first.
Once either player has zero ♥, or has completed every section of their score sheet, the game ends. Survivors count their scores. (Coins are 1 pt each, Gems are worth 2 pts each). Example:
The survivor with the most treasure points wins.
If you think this folding mechanism has merit, let us know! We've got ideas for more treasures...more obstacles...more back-stabby fun. If the concept is well-received in this contest, we'll turn them into a legacy game on a score pad for $10.

EMILY WILLIX is a game designer who loves creating fun, thinky games in small packages. She’s always on the lookout for ways to make games more earth-friendly, and operates her company, Small Furry Games, from a solar- and wind-powered sailboat currently located in the Dominican Republic. When she’s not designing games, Emily is probably proofreading another game designer’s rulebook. Or playing a game. Or thinking about games. But when she’s not doing anything game-related, she spends her time making YouTube videos, maintaining an old boat, and playing music with friends. Printed art asssets in this game come from iStockphoto.com (treasure map background and strip of looseleaf) and game-icons.net (snake icon, heart icon). The rest of the symbols are just typed characters from a typeface called "Cards," which is super useful for prototyping.
