Vision Quest is inspired by the powers of dreams and the folklore of People of the Northeast. Based off a tradition of initiation, this board game will task players to travel through an uncanny forest to gave favor from the spirits. But be wary, those who dwell too long in the forest risk their minds and their souls. Will your journey be brief but safe? Or will you risk it to receive the treasures of the forest?
Much of the art and inspiration of this board game comes from traditional Algonquin folklore. Whether that be Malsum the Giant, Wendigos, the strawberry of forgiveness or the muskrat creation story, this game draws on the ideas of those lived on the American continent long before the Europeans.
All the artwork was create over a semester long class to produce an interesting body of work that seamlessly fit together. The central theme of this board game was to explore the power of the unconscious and our ability to choose. The fight between free will and destiny is an important conflict to ponder, and it is my hope that this board game accurately represents this.
