A long time ago, in the lands of ancient China, lived a maiden amidst mist-kissed mountain peaks, burdened by her wicked stepfamily. Her beauty rivaled the first light of dawn, and her gentleness was akin to a moonbeam—pure and fair. Even her wit charmed all who crossed her path, including the Emperor himself. Now, he has tasked you and the rest of his imperial advisors with bringing the girl to him so they could be united in a grand ceremony for the ages. As destiny beckons, will you embrace this challenge and bring honor to your family's name?
Ye Xian is a card game inspired by the Chinese fairy tale of Cinderella. In the game for 3 - 6 players, take on the role of imperial advisors searching for the maiden who captured the Emperor's heart. Use deduction and strategy to outwit your opponents and bring the couple together. Succeeding will earn you the Emperor's favor, and bring honor to your family's name.
1) Place the Ye Xian card in the middle of the table with her peasant outfit facing up.
2) Count the number of players in the game. Then refer to the chart below:
3 players - Any card without numbers on it
4 players - As above & 4+ Cards
5 players - As above & 5+ Cards
6 players - All cards
3) Shuffle the deck and deal two cards to each player.
4) Place one of the remaining cards face-up in the area called PAVILION.Place the final card face-down in the area called CAVE.
5) The last player to visit a cave goes first.
The game is played in rounds. Starting with the first player, choose either to visit the Pavilion (left side of the board) or the Cave (right side of the board).
Visiting the Pavilion - Reveal a card from your hand and swap it with the one in the Pavilion area, following the icons and abilities on the revealed card.
Visiting the Cave - Swap a card in your hand with the one face down in the Cave area.
Gameplay then passes to the player on the left.
Magical Transformation: Certain cards in the game have symbols representing Ye Xian's peasant clothes (Sun) and her festival outfit (Moon). When playing a card with a transformation symbol in the Pavilion, check the Ye Xian card. If the symbol on the card does not match her current attire, flip the card.
Play continues until:
The player who played the Emperor card gains one favor from the Emperor, marking it on the game board with a dry erase marker. Ye Xian is then returned to her peasant clothes, and all cards are shuffled and redealt. The player to the left of the previous round's winner goes first.
The game concludes when a player marks their third dot on the Emperor's Favor tracker (found on the game board). That player is the winner.
