Secure supplies for your community while you struggle for control of derelict Chernobyl
In a near future, the Exclusion Zone around Chernobyl is populated again by fortune-seeking scavengers, set on finding precious resources in the contaminated wasteland. Take control of a scavenger Community; hunt, search for resources, trade and fight to carve your destiny in the Zone.
During a game of Nuclear Winds, you'll control 3 scavengers from your community, exploring and moving them across various locations, looting resources and, if need be, fight against other Inhabitants. At the end of the 8th round, the player with the most Victory Points wins.
Chernobyl's Locations
During setup, you'll form a 4x4 grid of cards, representing locations or territories. Cards are laid face down, ready to be explored by the first inhabitant who sets foot on them. Territories present various actions, whether it be gaining one of the 6 resource types, hunting for supplies or trading for other resources.
However, most locations will pose a Radiation Risk. Irradiated scavengers have reduced combat strength. Radiation can be cured only on certain locations or by using Iodine Pills.
Resource Types
Many locations will offer resource cubes: there are 6 types of those, and each inhabitant may only carry 2 cubes. Resources can be spent on specific locations for other effects, but as long as a scavenger carries them, they'll gain a bonus depending on the type. Will you prefer the Medic role by carrying Iodine and Medkits? Or will you take a more violent approach with rifles and ammo? Or maybe you'd like to have higher versatility using fuel and tools?
Combat
When the inevitable happens, it's better to be ready. If a scavenger enters a spece with an enemy one, combat will have to be resolved. Combat is resolved by both players rolling dice simultaneously; if the result is equal or lower than the inhabitant's strength, a hit will be scored. Inflict 2 hits to win. Be careful, as wounds taken during a fight will remain after the encounter.
Combat can be prevented by moving 2 scavengers on the same tile, as a space can only host 2 inhabitants.
Nuclear Winds is a great 2 player experience, due to its small size, footprint and playtime (15-20m). You may take it with you anywhere and immerse yourself right into the desolate atmosphere of the Exclusion Zone.
