These meeples are designed to mimic Ukraine's national flag, consisting of equally-sized horizontal bands of blue and gold. Ukraine's national colors date from pre-Christian times when blue and yellow, symbolizing water and fire, were prevalent in traditional ceremonies. Today, the colors in the Ukrainian flag represent golden fields of grain under a clear blue sky, reflecting the country's status as the "bread basket" of its area.

Important Dates in Ukraine Flag History

• 1848: The blue and yellow bicolor first appears during the Spring of Nations in Lemberg.
• 1918: Adopted as a state flag for the first time by the Ukranian People's Republic.
• 1922: Ukraine becomes part of the Soviet Union and display of the Ukrainian flag is banned.
• 1991: The Soviet Union dissolves and Ukraine declares independence.
• 1992: Officially adopted again by the Ukranian parliament after the fall of the Soviet Union.
• 2004: First celebration of the Day of the National Flag.
• 2023: The Ukraine Flag Meeple is born.
